Vintage hinged metal box with a lid, latch and clear handle. Made of thin, magnetic metal, the outside has been powder-coated with an off-white base and turquoise blue lid. Exterior has an orange-peel like texture in a matte finish, and rounded corners. The handle is hinged and riveted onto the top, sturdy and made of clear plastic. Front latch is brassy gold color over copper with light pitting. Also secure and quite functional with a maker's mark "Weiland Metal Prod, Chicago, IL". Base has 4 plastic feet riveted to each corner. Inside is an antique gold painted metal, with 3 rubber foam strips down the middle of the base and short walls. They are stuck on like tape and would be easily removable if preferred. Pretty enough to leave out for all to see.
While Weiland Metal Products is closed, it began in 1933 as one of several of George Weiland, Sr's companies. Another - Gateway Erectors - was involved in the building of the Sears Tower and Soldier Field in Chicago.
Measures 11 inches (28 cm) tall, 10 1/2 inches (26.7 cm) wide and 6 inches (15.2 cm) deep. Handle lays flat, but adds another 2 1/4 inches (5.7 cm) when in hand. Pretty enough to leave out for all to see.
Good Vintage condition overall. Lid opens easily with no squeaking. Overlaps cleanly over the lip of the base. Latch works perfectly and securely. All seams and rivets present and functional.
