    Description

Summer Festival For Peace Philadelphia 1970 Poster w/Janis Joplin, Rascals, CCR.
Original 1st printing 22 x 27" concert/event poster for the Philadelphia Summer Festival For Peace/Volunteers of America concert, a benefit for anti-war candidates and peace movement projects held at J.F.K. Stadium in Philadelphia, PA on 8/9/1970 (*event was canceled, see below). Poster lists appearances by: Big Brother (& the Holding Company), Judy Collins, Country Joe (McDonald), Creedence Clearwater (Revival), Miles Davis, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Janis Joplin, Al Kooper, Mother Earth, Tom Paxton, Peter, Paul & Mary, the Rascals, David Rea, Rotary Connection, Seatrain, Sha-Na-Na, Rosalie Sorrell, the Staple Singers and Ten Wheel Drive.
Design by George DeWoody, thin glossy stock poster is in good/decent (B-) condition; there is fraying and discoloration around the edges from a frame. Slight damage discoloration in all four corners and in the left/right margins, along with a few stray small edge tears, a series of edge dings/nicks/tiny nip tears scattered around the outer margins, a light to moderate amount of handling wear/stress creasing.
REMARKABLY SCARCE multi-act poster from a show that was intended as a "sequel" of sorts to the 8/6/1970 New York Peace Festival at Shea Stadium (which was also organized by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary and featured several of the same acts (Janis Joplin, Big Brother, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Rascals) listed on this poster). The event was scrapped, most of the posters were as well.
10% of the proceeds go to charity, in keeping with the spirit of the original show.
