    Description

In this listing we are offering a box which has wording on the top "Republican Governors Association America's Majority Celebration". This was issued by a Republican organization for an event that takes place yearly. This organization, which was founded in 1961, is still in operation. The primary purpose of the organization is to generate contributions for the Republican party.
This box is a trinket box in the shape of a metal five pointed star. The box is made of metal which is silver plated & the interior is lined with velvet. This box was purchased at a yard sale held in McLean, Virginia at the residence of Gary Fitzgerald (who died in 2005 at a different address than where the yard sale was held). In Mr. Fitzgerald’s Washington Post obituary he was described by his family as a compassionate conservative and devout Republican. We obtained the box from my 94 year old mother who obtained the box at the yard sale a number of years ago.
Fitzgerald was, at one time, the owner and vice-president of the Arlington Iron Works Company located in Manassas, Virginia. His grandfather founded the firm in 1948. Also, Fitzgerald is on record as having donated ,000 to the Bush presidential campaign. So, perhaps he obtained this box around the time of the Bush campaign. The box weighs 10.3 ounces. It measures 4 3/8 inches long by 4 3/8 inches wide & is 1 7/16 inches thick.
The metal is in excellent smooth condition with no flaws & has acquired a pleasing natural toned patina. The interior velvet shows no wear. Included with the box is a newspaper clipping (probably from the Washington Post newspaper) advertising the original yard sale.
Please examine the photos closely & purchase based on your own judgement as to condition & value.
