    Description

This antique copper tilting tea kettle was made by S. Sternau of New York. Features include:
    • Beautiful ornate scrolled stand and footed base with burner and snuffer.
    • Wooden grip crafted from Ebony, with a matching handle on the snuffer, as well as on the lid of the teapot.
    • Bottom of kettle is signed "Trademark SS & Co"
There is a patent date of 1892 inscribed on the burner. The patent is for the Sternau burner underneath, which allows alcohol to be used as fuel, with no smoke or soot. All Sternau kettles were double tin lined and handles were crafted from Ebony.
This item is in very good condition considering it’s age. There is not much patina/oxidation on the copper, most of which is around the attachment points of the feet and handle on the kettle, and on the base there is a small amount where the stand is attached. There is also a notable amount of patina on the hinge of the snuffer. The inside of the base is quite rusted, none of which is visible when the burner and snuffer are in place.
The teapot is 7.5" long from spout to handle, and the complete set stands 12.5" high. Capacity of the teapot is 2.5 pints. This antique kettle would make for a stunning display item and conversation piece.
